Before a reciter begins praising the Ahl al-Bayt, the Ziarat mandates the recitation of Allahu Akbar (God is the Greatest) one hundred times. The incident behind the teaching of this Ziyarat is narrated in authentic books such as Man La Yahduruhu al-Faqih and Uyun Akhbar al-Ridha , authored by the great scholar Sheikh Saduq (r.a.). According to the narration, a devoted follower named Musa ibn Abdullah al-Nakha'i approached the 10th Imam, Ali ibn Muhammad al-Naqi (also known as Imam Hadi) (a.s.). He requested the Imam to teach him a comprehensive and universal Ziyarat that he could recite when visiting any of the Infallible Imams (a.s.), whether near or far. In response to this request, the Imam (a.s.) taught him this Ziyarat.
