When Narada informs Goddess Lakshmi of the upcoming wedding, she becomes furious and confronts Vishnu, leading to a conflict between the two consorts. In the ensuing drama, Lord Srinivasa becomes a stone statue (the moolavirat at Tirumala). Padmavati joins him, and Vakula becomes the garland around his neck, ensuring the deities on the Seven Hills are forever complete. The film then jumps through generations to the story of Bhavaji (also known as Hathiram Bhavaji), an ardent devotee who comes to the temple but is denied entry by the priests. Lord Balaji (as the deity is now known) visits him every night to play dice. One day, Balaji loses his ornament, and Bhavaji is accused of theft. The King intervenes, and to prove his devotion, locks him in a room filled with sugarcane, commanding him to eat it all before dawn. Lord Balaji appears as an elephant and consumes the entire stock, miraculously saving his devotee. From that day, he is hailed as Hathiram Bhavaji (the word Hathi meaning elephant), and the King grants him full authority over the temple.
